Building Homes for Teachers, Growing Minds for Conservation

Support the future of conservation

This special charity project is raising funds to build three staff accommodation blocks at New Ngoma School, located in the remote village of New Ngoma adjacent to Kafue National Park, Zambia.

The school plays a vital role in educating the local community on conservation and the protection of elephants and other wildlife—connecting quality education with long-term environmental stewardship.

A school with heart, and urgent needs

New Ngoma School serves 160 students, aged 5–15, with only three teachers.

To meet demand and deliver quality education, four additional teachers are needed—but housing is the barrier.

The government is willing to provide more teachers, but until proper housing exists, they simply cannot be placed here.

The Head Teacher walks  10 miles
to and from school each day.

The New Ngoma Plan

We aim to build three safe, permanent housing units to help attract and retain qualified teaching staff.

Estimated cost per unit:
£12,000
Total estimate for 3 units:
£36,000
Fundraising goal:
£40,000
allowing for contingency costs
Future oversight

The cost will be funded through The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) Charity number: 1106893.

The build itself will be under the control of the Zambian charity Game Rangers International (GRI) Registered Non-Government Organisation in Zambia Cert. No. RNGO 101/0185/2014-ISSUE-2. This project is fully prepared to begin once funding is secured for the first unit.  The project will be overseen by Game Rangers International.
